UN Spox Avoids Talking Directly About US Legal Responsibilities on Recent Riots in Iran

Spokesperson for the Secretary-General of the United Nations Stephane Dujarric has evaded a question about the United States and the Israeli regime’s legal and undeniable responsibilities on recent foreign-backed unrests in Iran.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Answering a question, Dujarric did not respond directly to the question about the second letter of Iran’s representative in the United Nations to the UN Secretary-General about the recent remarks by US President Donald Trump that have a direct and undeniable legal responsibility for putting the lives of Iranians, especially the youth, in danger in the recent unrest.

Responding the question, Dujarric said that he was sure the letter would be answered.

In reaction to the question about the threats of the US president to attack Iran, the official said that they were still concerned about the rhetoric against Iran.

In a letter addressed to United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Security Council President Samuel Zbogar on Tuesday, Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York Amir-Saeid Iravani said that the US president threatened to attack Iran in violation of international norms and regulations.

He said that Trump’s reckless comments clearly provoke political instability and threaten the Islamic Republic’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national security, which are blatant violations of international law enshrined in the UN Charter.

He also warned that the US and the Israeli regime are directly responsible for the deaths of innocent Iranian citizens, particularly the youth, in the recent unrest.

The ambassador urged the UN secretary-general and the UNSC to call on the US and the Israeli regime to halt the anti-Iran policies and actions, and to warn Washington against any miscalculation of resorting to military aggression against the Islamic Republic.
